When Darrell wanted to make a music video that was partially animated he reached out to me. Darrell is one who always has a vision and this time was no different. He laid out exactly what he was looking for, sent references and was always available if I had any questions along the way. That made things really easy for me and I got to focus in on some very detailed art. Jenn, locked in a battle with the Queen over a love interest, gathers her army to defend her honor.
We styled the girls after the Spartan Warriors from the Movie (and comic) 300. You can see how detailed the character art and outfits are. This helped give it a visual appeal that grabbed your attention and drew you into the story. All the the characters were drawn separately for animation purposes. And the animation was done in a Motion Comic style. When blended and cut with the live video and mixed with the audio track (done by Aja), the end result was an amazing video that made you want more.
